I asked the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) the question a lot of gun owners have been asking for years: what would it take for the ATF to win back the public's trust?
This is Part 5, the final part of my interview with ATF Director Robert Cekada. The Senate confirmed him 59 to 39 on April 29, 2026, and he took over an agency of almost 5,000 people along with a real trust problem. In a 2024 national poll of 2,000 adults, only 53% rated the ATF favorably, second lowest of the six federal agencies asked about, and 11% said abolish it.
Cekada admits the ATF has "historically done a really bad job" of telling its story, says he added a new assistant director over public affairs, and says the agency has seized almost 56,000 guns from criminals under this administration while leaving lawful gun owners alone. Then I give you my honest take.
