Speaking of which, the Simpsons do hold the record for longest American animated sitcom, running as its own series since December 17th, 1989 making it roughly 37 years old and counting.
The Animated Series with the most total number of unique characters is Anpanman, Guinness world record officially counted a total of 1,768 different characters in this was counted in 2009, the present day total might actually be higher.
Trey Parker of South Park holds the world record for the most characters voiced by one person in the same series, having voiced 1,382 different characters in South Park. This counts both main characters like Cartman and Randy Marsh, alongside hundreds of minor one off characters.
And going back to the Simpsons, they hold the record for the most Guest Stars in an animated television series with over 810 guest star cameos, with the most interesting being Michael Jackson who couldn’t be credited as himself due to his Music Contract, so he played a character with a pseudonym.
