The Woodland Jumping Mouse is one of the most interesting small mammals that calls the mountain spring 💦💦💦 home. Using the stream as a highway they hop up and down all night setting off my cameras and I rarely get a clear shot since they are so fast. The woodland jumping mouse (Napaeozapus insignis) is a small North American rodent famous for its incredible leaping ability—it can jump up to 3 meters (nearly 10 feet) to escape predators. Found primarily in moist forests across the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada, this colorful mouse is easily distinguished by its bright orange-yellow sides, dark dorsal stripe, and a distinctive long, white-tipped tail. #animals #animallovers
