Description
The initial checkout of an Air King branded Lasko 2150 12" oscillating fan. This is a rather unusual variant of the 2150, this being the only instance I've seen.
Being sold under the Air King brand, it was likely intended for commercial use, yet seems to be considerably less powerful than the regular version. There are cost-cutting elements to the design of this unit, including the wire coming out the top of the base near the motor and the controls being mounted on the back of the motor, both to reduce the wire needed to build the fan.
Perhaps most notably, the unit is powered by a shaded pole motor, which I've been told is not unheard of in the 2150, but I've never encountered one. I was expecting the same performance as the PSC motor just with a considerable increase in power consumption, but it runs quite differently. Low is very slow, which I like, but medium and high are also seemingly much slower as well. It does draw more power, but not all that much more, probably because it's not matching the same output.
It needs a good cleanup, some service to the bearings, a shot of D-oxit to the switch and perhaps some repairs to the oscillation mechanism if I have parts, but it's otherwise all there and in good condition aside from some plastic rot starting on the motor housing. It's a very interesting example I'm glad to have in my collection. The 2150 was an excellent fan, I had no idea until more recently just how many variants there were over the years.
Thanks to @colin_5839for giving this to me!
