In this video, we will learn in detail how the PFC (Power Factor Correction) section works in an inverter air conditioner PCB. Many technicians can identify the PFC circuit on the outdoor unit PCB, but they often do not fully understand how it boosts the DC voltage and why it is so important for inverter AC operation. We will start from the AC input stage and explain how the mains AC is converted into DC through the bridge rectifier and then boosted by the PFC circuit to around 380V–400V DC.
You will also learn the role of the IGBT in the PFC section and how it performs high-speed switching to control the boost converter. The video explains how the PFC controller IC monitors voltage and current and generates switching pulses for the IGBT. We will also discuss the importance of the Optocoupler, how it provides electrical isolation between the high-voltage and low-voltage sections, and how feedback is transferred safely to maintain stable DC bus voltage.
Apart from theory, we will analyze the actual AC outdoor PCB and identify major PFC components such as the bridge rectifier, boost inductor, IGBT, diode, filter capacitors, optocoupler, current sensing circuit, and controller IC.
