At three months old, Tuck and Tonka are the newest members of Georgia Aquarium's African penguin colony. They've shed their downy chick feathers and grown the dense, waterproof plumage that makes their next milestone possible — a first introduction to the water.
African penguins' flippers are uniquely built for aquatic life, powering them through the water with incredible precision and control. For these birds, the ability to swim is a biological instinct. Getting comfortable with it is another story.
