I’ve always had a soft spot for those perfectly round little cacti that look like they might float away. In this easy pipe cleaner project, I shaped a charming Balloon Cactus — also called Ball Cactus or Parodia magnifica — complete with its plump, ribbed body, soft blue-green tones, and those fine golden spines that give it real character.
Native to the grasslands of southern Brazil, this little globe has become a quiet symbol of endurance and quiet strength. It thrives in tough conditions by storing every drop of moisture it can, while its spines gently guard against anything that might harm it. To many, it represents resilience — the ability to stay full of life even when the world around it feels dry and unforgiving.
Working with the chenille stems felt surprisingly satisfying. I started with the rounded body, gently building up the ribs and then carefully adding layer after layer of spines until it had that soft-yet-spiky personality.
