The Porsche 911 Dakar has, to make an understatement, been a smash hit. People love the idea of taking an on-road car, adding larger all-terrain tires, lifting it, and maybe adding a roof rack to make an off-road-ready adventure vehicle. People like them so much, in fact, that we've even coined a new term for them, "SUVs," and they're the most popular car segment of the past decade. But SUVs have grown so close to pavement-focused cars again that some are now ready for a renewed off-road focus.
That's how we get to the Audi Q8 E-tron 55 Edition Dakar: an off-road version of an SUV.
The Q8 Dakar uses basically the same likeable Safari-ization formula the Porsche 911 Dakar did, just applied to an electric SUV. In short, though, the Edition Dakar has a host of mods that make it better off-road; despite this, it's not a hard-core rock-crawler like a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, or a baja desert blaster like a Ford F-150 Raptor. Think of it more as a very nice SUV made with scenic overlanding in mind.
