By 1986, Ford had transformed the Thunderbird into a sleek Fox-platform coupe packed with technology, comfort, and V8 power. While many enthusiasts remember the Mustang from this era, the Thunderbird has largely faded from memory.
Today, we’re taking a detailed look at a remarkably well-preserved 1986 Ford Thunderbird Élan 5.0. This Mojave Desert survivor has traveled more than 176,000 miles and still features a fully functional digital instrument cluster, trip computer, electronic climate control system, and many of the luxury features that made the Thunderbird one of Ford’s most advanced personal luxury coupes of the 1980s.
