Survival in the Arctic Ice - The Deadly End of an Expedition | 4K Documentary

Greenland, 1930: In temperatures plummeting to minus 40 degrees, German polar explorer Alfred Wegener and his team fight for the success of their greatest mission yet. It is an Arctic expedition of superlatives, intended to lay the foundations for modern climate research—but it ends in a dramatic struggle for survival.

In this documentary, we go on a search for clues 80 years later. Using partly unreleased original film footage from 1930, we reconstruct the harsh deprivations on the inland ice. Why did the state-of-the-art propeller sled technology fail? How did the researchers survive for months in a bunker deep beneath the ice? And what tragic missteps ultimately led to the death of the man who changed the world with his theory of continental drift?

Experience a story of courage, scientific obsession, and a friendship that lasted until the very end.
