**When should you exit a trade? And what if your trading strategy has an expiry date that you've never even considered?**

Most traders know exactly where they're going to enter a trade, where their stop loss is, and where they want to take profit.

But there's one critical part of trading strategy performance that almost nobody investigates.

**TIME.**

How long should you actually hold a trade before you start questioning whether the setup is still valid?

If your trade hasn't moved after 10, 20, or even 30 candles, should you close it? Or should you leave it alone until your stop loss or take profit is reached?

In this video, I'm going to show you how to investigate the relationship between trade duration and trading performance using historical trading data.

We'll look at how long winning trades typically take to reach their targets, how long losing trades take to hit their stops, and what happens to trades that remain open beyond certain time thresholds.

I'll also show you how we're using Tier One Trader Performance OS to investigate this data, compare time-based exit strategies, and identify whether closing trades earlier could actually improve trading results.

**In this video, you'll learn:**

- Why time could be a missing variable in your trading plan.
- How to measure the average duration of winning and losing trades.
- Why some trading setups take longer to develop than others.
- How to investigate trades that remain open beyond a specific number of candles.
- How to backtest time-based exits without changing your entry strategy.
- Why closing trades early doesn't automatically improve profitability.
- How to avoid curve-fitting and over-optimising your trading strategy.
- Why measuring progress in R multiples can reveal more than measuring time alone.
- How to use historical data to make better trading decisions.
