Whether or not you're from California, LayerOne is a hacker con that I strongly recommend you attend. Folk often ask me things like, "If I find DEF CON and the rest of Hacker Summer Camp to be too large / too intimidating / too expensive for my first con, which one SHOULD i try to attend?" My answer is always the same...
1. If you live on the East Coast: CackalackyCon
2. If you live in the middle of the country: THOTCON or Wild West Hackin' Fest
3. If you live out west: LayerOne
... and, honestly, if you can attend CackalackyCon and LayerOne back-to-back, I *strongly* recommend that you do it, no matter where you actually call home. This video showcases some of the parts of LayerOne that I enjoyed (I am TOTALLY deficient for my failure to capture footage in the amazing Lockpick Village there, BTW. My pals from Seattle always come down and bring the awesomeness along with the LA locals. I really enjoyed things there this year!) and hopefully it encourages many of you to come check it out next year. It's always Memorial Day Weekend.
