In this video, I argue that the problem is not a shortage of good source material. Modern storytellers increasingly struggle to understand the virtues, traditions, and moral assumptions that made these stories compelling in the first place. Using examples from The Odyssey, Dracula, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, and the way we remember events such as the French Revolution, I explore why modern adaptations so often become contemporary ideology dressed in historical clothing.
