Carbon County’s vast landscape is shaped by movement, opportunity, and adventure. The Overland Trail crossed the county carrying emigrants westward and supporting the gold rush. Drawn by a natural passage through the Rocky Mountains, trappers, miners, sheepherders, cattle ranchers, and families traveled through—and many chose to stay. The spirit of exploration continues today, as the county’s extraordinary natural beauty attracts a new generation of adventurers.
