Incident DetailsThe Cause: Investigators focused on track tampering, specifically the theft of rail fasteners, plates, and sleepers (durmientes), which compromised the structural integrity of the tracks under the train's massive weight.
The Train: The Ferromex convoy consisted of 5 locomotives and 85 wagons carrying approximately 10,900 tons of steel and mineral coal toward Coahuila. Roughly 24 of these cars derailed.
