I lived in Springfield, Ohio in 1974 during the time Xenia, Ohio was hit by a historic EF-5 tornado. After a few days, my family had access to see the damage in person. That is something I have never forgotten and is the earliest memory I have in my life. I decided to spend an afternoon in Xenia and visit all the places I have seen in the many films and shows that have covered this tornado.
Part of the "Super Outbreak of 1974", the Xenia tornado was just one of 148 different twisters that took place in twenty four hours across the US on April 3rd and 4th. I have been researching this tornado for my entire life as it is still a very well known storm.
Special thanks to the city of Xenia, the staff at Greene County Historical Society, the staff and security at Kettering Health Greene Memorial Hospital for allowing me the access to learn more about Xenia and how they rebounded from such a tragic event. In a strange coincidence, on April 3rd, 2018, exactly forty-four years after the 1974 Xenia tornado, I was helping my mother move some furniture at her apartment in Grove City, Ohio when an EF-1 tornado hit the area. Also, I am aware that the final comparison picture in this video isn't exactly the view of the original, but that is the closest I was able to get in the time I was there.
