This video series, “Mainely Resilient: How Maine Farmers Stay Profitable,” highlights Maine farms using U.S. Department of Agriculture programs to manage farm risk.
In this video, Chris Howard, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, speaks with Paul Frederic, owner of Frederic Farm in Starks, Maine. Frederic discusses how he mitigates risks on his beef operation to strengthen his business.
He also highlights:
- Establishing a good relationship with the USDA
- Keeping good records and developing his own system
- Having off-farm income to start a young business
- Natural Resource Conservation Service pasture or hay acreage
- His farm transition plan
