Descrição
A state of emergency has been declared in the Carolinas, a million people have evacuated, and animal shelters are working feverishly to prepare for increased intake of displaced and injured animals in the wake of Hurricane Florence. GreaterGood.org is There When It Matters™, but we need you.
Hurricane Florence is on course to be the first major hurricane to hit the Carolinas since the 1950s. We need your help to provide urgently needed support to people and pets. Hurricane Florence is currently a powerful category 2 hurricane with sustained wind speeds of 105 miles per hour. Yesterday, the storm shifted slightly in direction, putting more of the coastline at risk, and is forecast to slam into the Carolinas on Friday morning, bringing hurricane-speed winds, rain, and massive storm surges which could cause catastrophic flooding. The slow speed of the storm has government officials worried that Florence will stall just off the coast, dumping an estimated 40 inches of rain in one day. Millions of people are projected to lose electricity following the storm.
GreaterGood.org is currently sending desperately needed food, medical supplies, and cash to help those on the ground prepare, and to transport animals out of harm’s way. Through our disaster response team and our local partners on the ground, we will help care for people and pets through the storm and recovery. Your ongoing support makes it possible.
27 pallets of dog and cat food shipped to Louisville, Tennessee, for pre-positioning to be sent to animal shelters and rescues housing pets displaced by the storm once first responders are allowed into affected areas.
20 pallets of dog and cat food and 48 wire crates for pets displaced by the storm shipped to Effingham, South Carolina. The food and crates will go to South Carolina’s Emergency Management Team.
750 crates for pets displaced by the storm shipped to the North Carolina State Animal & Agriculture Response Teams for emergency sheltering across the state.
200 crates for pets displaced by the storm shipped to Florence County, South Carolina. These crates will go to their emergency shelter and local counties in need.
With a storm like Hurricane Florence, preparedness is vital. Please donate to save lives!
