Description
On Saturday April 4th, 2026, Union Pacific train Z-KCLB (High Priority Intermodal, Kansas City to Long Beach), derailed near Mescal, Arizona on the Union Pacific Lordsburg Subdivision. The derailment happened around 5:30 PM local time, and involved over 15 cars. Thankfully, no injuries or hazardous material release was reported.
I happened to be a few miles down the track, heard about the derailment over the radio, and headed over to the scene to get some aftermath shots of the wreck. Prior to the derailment, the train triggered a nearby detector for a dragging axle and hotbox. An investigation is underway determining the cause of the derailment.
