I’m Patrick Lancaster, and in this report we travel down one of the most dangerous roads in near Donetsk Russia-Ukraine war zone — the road from Donetsk into Avdiivka.
This route is under constant threat from kamikaze FPV drones, artillery strikes, and aerial surveillance. Local military escorts warn us that stopping on this road can mean instant death. Burned-out vehicles, destroyed bridges, and charred wreckage line the highway as we race through one of the deadliest zones outside Donetsk.

During the trip we are forced to stop and take cover after reports of kamikaze drones overhead. Soldiers explain how the road is constantly monitored from the air and why movement at night almost guarantees being targeted.
We also pass damaged civilian infrastructure, including a medical facility reportedly hit just minutes before our arrival.
Avdiivka was one of the longest and most brutal battles of the Ukraine war. Now, after years of combat, I show you what life looks like on the ground and the dangers people still face every single day.
