How to Build a Custom Finesse Jig
Walker starts with a standard jig skirt and removes some of the strands. This reduces the overall bulk and creates a smaller finesse jig profile. He places the skirt material along the hook shank. Then, he secures it with tying thread. Rather than limiting the thread to the skirt collar, Walker wraps farther down the hook shank. That extra thread serves an important purpose. It creates a better surface for the super glue while also adding grip underneath the soft plastic trailer.
Why Thread Helps Hold the Trailer
A bare metal hook shank does not provide the best surface for adhesive, so Walker creates a foundation with thread before adding the trailer. After threading the soft plastic onto the finesse jig, he applies only a couple drops of super glue. This bonds with the thread and helps lock the trailer into place. This modification helps prevent the soft plastic from sliding down the hook. Anglers can spend more time fishing and less time adjusting their trailer after every cast. The thread also secures the hand-tied skirt.
A Smaller Finesse Jig Profile for Bass
The finished finesse jig combines a trimmed skirt with a compact soft plastic trailer. Together, these features create a subtle presentation without sacrificing durability.
