They should treat us like royalty, even when we make mistakes! They need to understand the limits to the scope of their authority because WE are the “authorities!”
In this video, I walk up quietly and begin recording. He began speaking to the mom of the youngster behind the wheel, in a demeaning manner. He was sorta lecturing her. He proceeded to give the youngster a ticket and tow the vehicle. If he was going to do all of that, then that’s all the lecturing they need. He could’ve saved the tough guy goodie two shoes act for a real hardened criminal who just created a victim. I was in the moment and decided to let the trooper know exactly how I felt. I let loose a little. I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I do mean to remind them how it feels to be talked to a certain way.
When I would turn and look at the mother, she would give me a quick grin and a nod as if to thank me every time. The people understand why this is necessary. At least those who’ve been mistreated by the same system that takes their money to provide a service that picks and chooses who to serve. It’s not these neighborhoods, that’s for sure.
