Rounding the famous Tehachapi Loop at Waylong, CA. My greatest regret from 2018 was not filming the entirety of this ride. I was down to the last hour of space on my last SD card and I'd been pushing 72 hours without sleep. At the time I was working a seasonal job on a trail crew in northern Arizona and I was on day four of my five day weekend. Arriving late in Flagstaff would mean missing nine days of work. The previous night I had a really close call with catching this train out of the Mariposa facility in Stockton and I passed out immediately after boarding. I woke up the next morning in Bakersfield and only stayed awake long enough to film the loop. The next time I woke up I was in Barstow. At the time this didn't seem like a huge loss as I planned to return to the Central Valley in late August and film a San Francisco to San Diego video followed by a Los Angeles to NYC video. The goal of these two trips would be to film the entirety of both routes in the daylight where possible. Unfortunately the day I headed out of Flagstaff when my trail crew term ended I dislocated a finger boarding a slow moving train. I wasn't feeling very capable of taking on the tall fences of California so I headed back to Dallas on BNSF via Tulsa. Instead of the beautiful Tehachapi Pass video I wanted to make I filmed "The Train from Hell" on the former Frisco route between Tulsa and Dallas.
