When he wrote this remarkable letter to a friend in 1912, D. H. Lawrence was newly and turbulently in love with Frieda Weekley, a German author who had left her husband and children to be with him. Clearly, the pressure was unbearable for all involved. Two years later, Lawrence married Frieda. They remained together until his death.

Tom Ellis joined us to read this letter at Letters Live at The Town Hall, New York in May 2026.
