Charity - The Brain Tumour Charity
#Run4Jayden
We all have 2 choices in life.
We either want to do something or we don't....maybe take the easy route or the harder route, or perhaps, we will go for that run today or we don't bother. The point is, 'WE' have that flexibility to make that decision.
Our brains are wired to keep us safe. Programmed to take the option which makes us feel more comfortable. It's totally normal. When we wake up in the morning, we don't really want to get out of bed because it's so cosy and warm. Or maybe when we're in the middle of a run, we get that feeling of giving up because it's getting too hard. That's the perfect example of our minds controlling us, and convincing us not to put our bodies through an uncomfortable situation.
But...we have the choice to make that decision.
In 2014, our son Jayden was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour called Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade 4. Positioned in the Brain Stem. The most aggressive and hard to reach areas of the brain meaning no treatment or operation could save him. He was only for years old at the time. Given only 3-6 months to live, we did everything we could to help, but also to create as many memories as we could with the little man, with the time we had left with our son.
In the beginning, I mentioned we all have a choice...but Jayden didn't. He simply couldn't wash his hand of this disease and it would just go away. He literally had to face this tumour head-on. Face all of the intrusive treatments, operations, time away from home in the hospital with tests, developing difficulty in moving around as a little boy should. But yet he fought through it as best he could and never gave up. On his 5th Birthday, he got a special visitor at home when Spiderman (aka me) jumped from his porch roof to surprise him. What an incredible memory that is. His facial reactions still very clear in my mind that his hero is right in front of him.
So what am I doing?
I want to put myself through a difficult challenge. A challenge that will definitely encourage that feeling of giving up, and push me to see how far I can take my body. To get to that feeling of giving up, and once I hit that stage (and it will happen), I then have 'THAT CHOICE' to make. It's in that very moment, that I will be in that similar place to when Jayden had no choice, but to face that difficult challenge, BUT...I keep going because Jayden had to.
The running challenge is:
4 Miles every
4 hours for
48 hours
The event will take place on the 5th March starting at 8pm.
The route I'll be taking is situated around the duel carriageway by B&Q in Basingstoke. Nice and busy throughout the day so feel free to give us a toot if you see me driving by. The loop from the roundabout to roundabout is just over a mile so 4 laps will cover the task on each leg.
I'll be tracking each leg via my Garmin GPS running watch and all runs will be saved and recorded on my Strava Online Tracking App. I will also be going live and posting stories on my Instagram - @mikewilsonaction

Finally, I want to thank you for donating, but if you're unable to donate, I would really appreciate it if you would share this amongst friends and family.
Wish me luck!
