We reacted to Medieval artworks of animals and they were horrendous... so we then made our own, which were worse.

Most Medieval artworks were taken from Der Naturen Bloeme (Jacob van Maerlant, 13th century). Other sources include The History of Four-Booted Beasts and Serpents (Edward Topsell, 1658), Liber Floridus (Lambert, c. 1100) and the Northumberland Bestiary (unknown author, c. 1250).
