Over a decade later, I've brought back power up videos. Years ago I used to upload short little animation power up videos. These would be a way for me test out effects, and build out quick little scenes to post.
In this one, I'm experimenting with using noise and a some good ol' chromatic aberration. I also threw down a film grade, no LUTs this time. I've never been a huge fan of using noise for sprite animations, but I see the appeal. You may not be able to see it at lower resolutions, might need to 4K the video to see it. I've used some chromatic aberration for effects in certain shots but never as a filter for a continuous multi-scene effect- it's okay. The film grade looks nice, might need work.
Not sure if I wanna do noise for GVEG5. The entire series I avoided it, but it def gives off the 90's feel. Plus it helps with smoothing of gradients and other things, we'll see. Already been using some grades for certain shots in GVEG5. Usually I do custom LUTs or I'll just color correct an adjustment layer with stack of effects like levels and curves, etc... But I'm digging the grades, man.
The digital intro didn't take long, maybe 15 minutes. I''ve got a good talent for crafting title intros, I know what I want and what looks good. I wonder how good I could get a title intro to look if I spent weeks or months on it... I think the font may have looked better if it was a different style, but didn't wanna waste time looking online for something.
This little animation took about 3.5 hours. Needed a break from GVEG5. I already had the Trunks and Mecha Frieza sprites done. Been experimenting with a full 2:00 AR. Still keeping the AR black bars for the cinematic vibe, just less of it as the AR is not 16:9. Goku vs. Evil Goku 5 will be 2:00 like this. Looks very hip 😎
Proud to announce after years of searching I finally found the exact riser tone that was used in the Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z. This SFX is a stock Hollywood sound effect used in various film and TV shows. Iron Man 2 used this sound. As well as Sailor Moon, and a few other anime from the 90's. You can hear the riser, which is used as a "power up" sound, just before the first shot of Trunks.
This was a fun side hustle. Hope you guys enjoy. Now back to GVEG5.
