THE TRUTH: Some AFRICAN and CARIBBEAN parents are BAD PEOPLE | Life. Love. Locs
Often in African and Caribbean communities, parents are put on a pedestal - and when their bad behaviour is called out, the response is often to minimise it and say "they didn't really mean it". This video discusses how important it is for us to call out abusive behaviour, regardless of who has done it, and hold them to account, rather than victim blaming, pushing the victims of abuse to "forgive" or be silent about the childhood abuse they have suffered. This is not about imperfect parents - we are all human and make mistakes - this is about parents who are intentionally cruel, and inflict emotional, physical and other types of abuse on their children.
