Description
I bought the rarest GMC motorhome ever made — a 1978 GMC Birchaven — and now I have to make a decision that genuinely scares me: restore it, or let it go for good.

I've been here before. I owned a GMC motorhome once, never finished it, and let it go — and I've regretted it ever since. This time I want to do it right. But "doing it right" means a full gut restoration: tearing out the original layout, updating 1970s electrical, dealing with the water system, the furnace, the propane, the air ride, and an Oldsmobile 403 engine with Siamese cylinders. Parts alone on these can run $50,000–$80,000 before you ever pay for labor.
In this video I walk you through everything that's wrong with it, what it'll actually cost, and the real reason I froze: I've never had a mentor. I've spent my whole life teaching myself the hard way — and this is the project that finally stopped me cold.
So I'm asking for help. If you've restored a GMC motorhome, or you're a mechanic, electrician, plumber, or cabinet maker who's tackled a project like this — I want your perspective in the comments. Not to do it for me. To help me avoid the expensive mistakes.
Restore it, or walk away? Tell me what you'd do. 👇
