Every year craftsmen and women from around Japan (and the world) get together to see who can shave the thinnest shaving using a Kanna, a Japanese handplane. The shavings are measured in the microns, turning wood into see-through ribbons.
Thousands of people gathered in Miki City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan this year to watch the 42nd annual Kezuroukai competition and look at the many tools on display.
For the last 400+ years Miki has been known as a black smithing city, they make high quality knives, planer blades, chisels and many more carpentry tools. In this episode I get totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of unique carpentry tools on display, it was an amazing tool shopping experience.
Half an hour from Kobe, Miki City is definitely worth visiting for the many tool stores that are open throughout the year, even when the competition isn’t taking place.
Nikita and Issac are legends for making this event happen for us! And Nikita also helped with translation (which I sorely needed lol)
Check out Miki City!
