Description
Aglais io is a stunning butterfly in Europe and Asia. Unlike its brightly colorful butterfly form, its caterpillar form is black with white dots and scary looking spikes. It feeds exclusively on nettles and is commonly found in spring. Unfortunately, people tend to destroy nettles in their gardens and with them the food source for these butterflies. Ironically, Nettles are also an extremely healthy food source for us humans.
