Description
The Orville’s move from Fox to Hulu was not just a simple streaming platform change. One of the biggest reasons the Hulu move mattered so much is because Seth MacFarlane finally had more creative breathing room for The Orville, without the same network TV airtime limits, commercial breaks, and strict episode runtime requirements that came with airing on Fox.
When The Orville was on Fox, great scenes, character moments, jokes, emotional beats, and world-building moments had to be cut so episodes could fit into the traditional network television schedule. Seth MacFarlane wanted fans to see more of The Orville, more of the crew, more of the Planetary Union, and more of the sci-fi storytelling that made the show special.
Fox gave us The Orville, and fans will always be thankful for that, but Hulu allowed The Orville: New Horizons to feel bigger, more cinematic, more emotional, and more complete. This is why The Orville Season 3 felt like the show finally had room to breathe.
Fox wanted The Orville to fit the schedule. Seth MacFarlane wanted the schedule to fit The Orville.
