Description
The Brothers Concerto revisits life moments that encapsulate the unique experience of siblinghood: Tales of make-believe monsters. An anxious car ride. A little brother glad to tag along with his big brother, unknowingly developing the foundation of their closeness and mutual respect in adulthood. Unfaltering support through life’s greatest challenges.
Leonardo and Peter Dugan grew up in Philadelphia, where their musical development was steeped in both the jazz and classical traditions. The language of the Concerto reflects the commonality and individuality of brothers, of two musical idioms, of an orchestra and its soloist. Soaring, lyrical melodies, propulsive rhythms, and Leonardo’s characteristic lush orchestration frame the athletic virtuosity of Peter’s pianism. It’s an inspired combination—classical structure and counterpoint with improvised solos using the vocabulary of jazz.
