The Bridge Ep. 5 excerpt - Does the UK do enough for asylum seekers #universitycollegelondon

UCL Podcast 1 months ago

Description

The UK’s asylum debate has increasingly shifted into local communities, from St George’s flags appearing across towns to unrest in Epping over the use of “asylum hotels.” These moments reveal a sharply divided public grappling with questions of safety, fairness, and responsibility. At the heart of the issue lies a fundamental question: is the UK doing enough for asylum seekers?

To mark Refugee Week, in this episode of The Bridge: A Disagreeing Well Podcast, UCL student host Diego Lacheze‑Beer brings together two contrasting voices who nonetheless find areas of agreement: Amina Khanom, who argues the UK falls short and must expand safe routes, and Eric Kaufmann, who believes current support is sufficient but should be paired with offshore processing and strict quotas.
