A hospital birth was entirely unexpected, but I’m slowly learning every day that motherhood is about adapting. Thank goodness the twins are thriving. My postpartum recovery, on the otherhand, is different story for another day.
Thank you to Dr. Rashida N’Gouamba for an incredible hospital birth experience. She helped change my perspective on hospital births, and we are grateful that the twins and I are safe and healthy.

Some births leave an indelible mark on our hearts, and this twin mama’s story is one of them. After laboring for nearly three weeks on and off, she pushed through unimaginable physical and emotional challenges with resilience and unwavering determination.
Her journey wasn’t what she originally envisioned, but it was profoundly hers. In California, the odds often seem stacked against vaginal twin births.
Yet, this mama knew her body and her babies. She stayed committed to her goal of a vaginal birth, even when the path shifted.
When it became necessary to transfer to the hospital, she faced the heartbreak and frustration of letting go of her original plan. But sometimes, in the most unexpected places, we find allies. Thankfully, an amazing doctor stood ready to support her, recognizing her strength and her babies’ readiness to come earthside on their terms.
And come earthside they did—vaginally. This mama defied the odds, rewriting the narrative of what twin birth in a hospital can look like. Her story is a testament to the power of advocacy, perseverance, and trust in the birthing process.
Creating the birth video for this family was deeply meaningful, though it looks a bit different from my usual work. I wasn’t allowed to film in the OR, so I set my camera down and stepped fully into my role as her Doula. I wish hospital staff understood that professionals documenting births aren’t there to create lawsuit material—we’re there to honor our clients’ stories.
This video, featuring beautiful stills from her journey, is set to a very special soundtrack: this mama’s original song, “Home Inside Your Arms (I Found You)”. Her angelic voice, paired with her incredible story, is truly moving. She’s amazing in every way, and I’m honored to have been part of this unforgettable experience.
