this special aired only once on san francisco nbc affiliate kntv at 2am local time on 12/29/19. it was later put on nbc's website (but it's gone now). this aired around 7 months before the announcement of the g4 revival.
after finding out about this on the attack of the doc twitter page i started a free trial of fubo tv and was able to record this live on my pc. because of this there's gonna be some stutter. sorry about that. original commercials are included. chris hardwick was cut off at the end but it wasn't like this on the version nbc put online. no, this didn't air in 2012.
why this special was made is beyond me. maybe they were testing the waters for the g4 reboot. maybe they wanted to make something to nbc could keep the trademark. i dunno.

got this from Doug baughman, who worked at the og g4 as a director and senior manager for program planning, and was the g4 reboot's director of programming and creative strategy:
"It was done for trademark purposes, which is basically a "use it or lose it" scenario if you own a property but don't use it.. This was thrown together by one person on the early staff who had been working on the network for around a year. Not sure if they bought the time on the local NBC station or were given it, but they got it on."
