Side to side movement is NOT a flaw.
-
On the left, we have Sabastian Sawe when he broke the official marathon world record this past April in London. 1:59:30. The first official sub 2 hour marathon in history.
On the right, we have the late Kelvin Kiptum when he broke the world record in Chicago back in 2023 (2:00:35).
These are the 2 fastest marathons ever run. And you can see clear side to side movement in both of them.
The point of displaying these two side by side is to appreciate that efficiency can be found in allowing your body to move. Not restricting it.
Running technique does not have to look the same person to person. It is influenced by many factors, including the individual's unique anatomy and relative fatigue.
However, you can still appreciate the similarities, like the consistent rhythm and how the movement repeats cleanly stride after stride.
Movement is not a flaw just because you can see it.
