Torgeir "TeeBee" Byrknes, legendary drum and bass producer and DJ, is the star of the 55th episode of 'Thorinquiry'.

TeeBee is a drum and bass icon whose work has helped define the neurofunk and techstep subgenress. He produced three full solo albums in the early 2000s to help establish himself. Through releases on some of the biggest drum and bass labels in the world and his own Subtitles recordings imprint, his influence on the likes of Noisia, Pendulum and Spor is obvious to hear.

Teaming up with friend and fellow producer Calyx to form a duo that would last the better part of two decades, TeeBee was an marquee name in the electronic music space and played out headlining flyers around the world. Their sound became famed for its absurdly high quality production levels, addictive basslines and clinical breaks. TeeBee is reknowned as a sound engineer and has produced work for many other artists over the years.

Four collaboration albums and dozens and dozens of remixes later, TeeBee is back as a solo artist again and he rediscovered his signature sound with his fourth solo album, 'The Cosmic Carnival'. He has also created a new collaborative group, teaming up with the iconic DJ Craze and R&B singer Palmer Reed to form 'Greater Than', where they will explore a new kind of vocal drum and bass sound.

We discussed TeeBee's reasons for parting ways with Calyx, the spiritual implications of music, ruminations on creativity, resdiscovering his soul as an artist, reflections on his time in the mainstream, the quest for technical mastery, his relationship with Norwegian Jazz trumpet legend Nils Petter Molvær and what he wants his future work to be and ultimately his legacy as an artist.

This is a music interview unlike any you've ever experienced.
