Unbricking my original Oculus Quest (2019) wasn’t easy — this headset is about 6 years old and no longer supported by Meta/Facebook. After hours of trial, error, and research, I finally found a way to fix it, and I’m sharing the process here to help others who might be stuck too.
What happened:
• I tried updating the headset software, but it stalled after “Update 1 of 2 complete.”
• The device kept asking me to connect through the Meta Quest app, but nothing worked — even after multiple hard resets and attempts with the Meta Horizon app.
• Frustrated, I put the headset away for months… until I decided to try again.
The fix:
1. Delete the new Meta Quest Horizon app from your phone.
2. Download the older version (link below).
3. Locate the file in your phone’s directory (on my Samsung it was under “Files”).
4. Open it — the original app will appear.
5. Perform a factory reset on your headset.
6. Reconnect and follow the setup process.
7. When the safety video plays, the update continues to “2 of 2”… and finally completes!
✅ Success! My Oculus Quest is back to life.
