Perched at an elevation of roughly 10,000 feet, the Tawang Monastery is a spiritual beacon in the Himalayas. Known in Tibetan as Galden Namgey Lhatse, this 17th-century marvel is home to hundreds of monks and houses a massive 18-foot gilded statue of Lord Buddha.
