For many of us, it’s one of the only places where we voluntarily meet pain—on purpose, in public, and with power. Through the vibrations of the needle, we surrender to meet layers of ourselves. We sit still while our body is opened. And when it’s over, we leave changed, our choices chiseled into our skin.
