About Surah Ibraheem (Chapter 14): This surah was revealed in Makkah with the exception of verses 28 & 29, which belong to the Madinah period, as these two verses are usually considered to refer to the Battle of Badr. This sūrah takes its name from the mention of an episode in the life of Abraham (vv. 35–41) in which he prays for the security of Makkah, protection from idolatry for himself and his children, prosperity for his progeny, and forgiveness for his parents and all believers on the Last Day. This chapter also refers to some of Allah’s favours, which are met with ingratitude and denial. A sizable portion reveals how the disbelievers will be let down by Satan and tormented in Hell.
Surah Ibraheem is important for Muslims because it contains the dua of Abraham. All Muslims are required to read out this dua in daily prayers salat. The dua occurs in verses 35-41 (رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ) at 16:32 in this video.
