Description
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, or Super Puzzle Fighter II X in Japan, turns 30 this year and remains one of my favourite games of the 90s. I've been a fan since its original release, and it never fails to impress me whenever I return to it. This retrospective is very much a love letter to a game I hold dear.
I explore how Puzzle Fighter was made, from the origins of the concept and the difficult process of choosing its roster to how Capcom settled on its unusual title. I'll also dive into the many ports released across PS1, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, PSP, GBA, PS3, Xbox 360 and currency systems to see which versions are still worth playing today. Finally, I'll explore why, almost 30 years later, we still haven't received a true sequel.
