The impacts of the northern wildfire smoke are certainly being felt across Northeast Wisconsin.
The city of Appleton canceled all outdoor activities July 16, 2026, and is urging residents to stay inside.
People are switching up their routine to avoid the smoke.
Macy Binner, visiting Appleton from Nashville, and her family canceled plans and spent most of the trip inside to avoid the smoke from northern wildfires drifting down south.
Downtown Appleton boutique Lillian’s was holding its annual summer sale. With the smoke, Diane Sauer said the store had to relocate its stock.
Dr. Mark Moss with UW Health told FOX 11 the smoke blanketing Wisconsin is dangerous to be outside in for too long.
He recommends a maximum of 10-15 minutes outside at a time. There are other ways to minimize exposure for those who need to be outside for longer.
