Description
Alberta's historic referendum is in the books and Alberta voters have made their voices heard: a clear rejection of the path toward separation, as well as a more mixed result on the other nine questions. In this interview, Rob Breakenridge is joined by Alberta Premier Danielle for a closer look at the implications of this vote and how the results will shape the agenda and focus of both her government and her party. Smith argues that there's now a clear mandate to put the separation debate to rest and to focus on next year's election - and she expects those representing and speaking on behalf of the UCP to take their cues from that mandate. The premier also concedes that there's little appetite in Alberta for prolonged constitutional battles, but believes the referendum has delivered a mandate to push for greater provincial autonomy and control in areas around immigration.
