Description
We sing, perhaps, the oldest Christmas carol there is. Corde Natus ex Parentis ("Of the Father's heart begotten") began as a text by Roman poet Aurelius Prudentius in the 4th century. Early plainchant versions appear in manuscript as early as the 10th century, and the melody to which it is eventually set, Divininum Mysterium, shows up in the Finnish song book Piae Cantiones in 1582. The pairing of the Divinum Mysterium melody and the Prudentius text is subsequently published in 1851 and is the basis for my arrangement. Happy Holidays!
