ShinHan Colorist Poster Color for Professionals Review & Swatch

Description

I was curious about this paint as soon as I saw it listed on Blick. Disclosure: Blick sent me this paint for review. Viee the Shin Han Colorist set and bottles here: https://tidd.ly/4vBsK4r

*I compared these to the Shinhan Professional Poster Color in tubes in this video. You can see the tube paints here: https://tidd.ly/4vBsK4r

**I have also reviewed the ShinHan Professional Gouache, and between the three, I think it is probably the best choice for artists: https://tidd.ly/3S90zv5

Pros:
Price: 40ml for about $8/bottle
Handy, no clog bottle
Set comes in a nice box
Easy to use
Photographs very well
Pure colors mix cleanly
Opaque
Leftover paint on the palette will reactivate easily so no waste
Open stock available
*Pigment info on bottles

Cons:
Limited range of 12 colors with no earth tones
The paint had considerable thickening in 2 of the bottles and needed to be rehydrated and stirred (and these are new paints)
I think some of the pigment info is wrong. (Cobalt Hue and Viridian Hue specifically)

Bottom line: I really enjoyed using these to paint the demo painting, and the price is good, but I don't trust that all of the pigment info is accurate. The numbering system matched the colors in the tube Shinhan Professional Poster Color line, but the colors were slightly lighter or a touch off from the tube range. I will have a review of the tube colors soon, overall I prefer the Colorist bottles to the tubes. Considering this, I think they are a good budget alternative to more expensive brands as long as the cons don't bother you or you don't mind having to stir paint. They were very easy to use, and they photographed beautifully, so if you are after those qualities, you won't be disappointed. After all, poster color is designed with ephemeral graphics in mind, work meant to be scanned and photographed, so longevity is not the biggest concern. If it is your biggest concern, choose colors by the pigment codes (and hope they are accurate!)
