“The Lord is my shepherd”, as the Psalm once said.
While starting this poem, I sat on my bed
And thought back that old day where I first did view
Some bighorn sheep roaming the mountain oh so blue.
At nearly age twenty, approaching the top,
My mother and sister and I could not stop
Observing the big sheep under the cold sky.
“Wow, these are amazing creatures”, then thought I.
Now, as I heard again the twenty-third Psalm,
Along with the passage from the book of John,
I thought of the shepherd and us as the sheep
Of the mountain that God is watching so deep.
I thank thee, good shepherd, for welcoming us
To the gates of heaven, thy love for us,
And for watching us, sheep of the mountain, now
Forever and ever, oh mighty God, thou!
