Some languages assign a gender to tables. Others consider women to be masculine. Yet others do the same, but don’t admit it. None of them fulfill the requirements of a progressive society.
I’m aware that talking about gender-inclusive language means poking the hornet's nest – maybe someone will bring rotten eggs to throw at me …
But hey, what’s a Polyglot gathering without a hot topic? In this talk I will compare how speakers of the languages I'm fluent in try (and often fail) to make language work for everyone.
