Today's video comes with a pretty funny backstory! 😂
She Grew Her Toenails for 8 Months Just to Be on Dr. Nail Nipper! -- https://youtu.be/YnTYe-mi4U0
A couple of years ago, we hired a new receptionist. When she discovered that I was the person behind the Dr. Nail Nipper YouTube channel, she got very excited. Why? Because her parents were already HUGE fans of the channel! In fact, they were so enthusiastic about Dr. Nail Nipper that they encouraged her to accept the job when we offered it.
And today, we finally got to meet her parents!
Our patient has been growing out her toenails since July, and we had a little fun joking that she was doing it just to make an appearance on Dr. Nail Nipper. After eight months, those toenails were definitely ready for some attention!
This isn't one of our most dramatic nail transformations, but there's a lot more to this visit than trimming toenails.
We talk about aging and toenail changes, why toenails can become thicker or start curving at the sides, and the importance of keeping an eye on your feet, especially if you have diabetes.
Our patient also shares a little about her double lung transplant, her recovery, and the medications she'll need to take for the rest of her life.
We discuss diabetic neuropathy, numbness in the toes, and why numbness affecting just one toe may have a different explanation than typical diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
And of course, there's plenty of family humor along the way!
A few things you'll learn in today's video:
- Why toenails can become thicker as we age
- How toenails can begin curving downward and cause ingrown toenails
- What diabetic peripheral neuropathy typically looks like
- Why proper diabetic foot care matters
- Why regular foot checks are important
- Why even relatively healthy-looking toenails can benefit from professional care
One important reminder: If you have diabetes, don't ignore cuts, infections, ingrown toenails, or changes in sensation. Getting problems checked early can make a real difference.
Thank you to this wonderful family for being such loyal Dr. Nail Nipper viewers and for sharing their story with us!
